What made you want to form a band?
I grew up in a house full of musicians and played many instruments from a young age. Music has surrounded me my whole life and it has always been a super big part of me. I have always written poetry and I wanted a way to bring my poems and daydreams to life. That’s when I realized I wanted to start a band and share my message and thoughts with people hoping that they could relate to me or a certain feeling through songs.

What are you and your band’s biggest inspirations when writing music?
When writing music, it always starts with my poems. After I have an idea, we try to come up with a melody to carry the feeling I want to project through the poem. Our inspirations vary through different moods. If we’re writing a love song, it’s going to be more surfy and vibey versus when we want to write a song about annoyed feelings, it will have a harder, more punky song.
Where did the name Strawberry Army originate from?
My mom was going to name me Strawberry, and I always just held on to it. The army part came to me because it seemed very powerful and united together which is what I wanted to portray through our music and as a musician.
What do you hope for Strawberry Army in the future?
I really hope to go on tour, travel, and spread our music and happiness to people worldwide.

You consistently have great stage presence and unique outfits when you perform. Does it help you feel more like yourself when you’re on stage? What is your motivation behind this?
On stage I can really just let go and leave it all on the stage. Growing up in a family of musicians really helped me fine tune how I wanted to be as an artist. As for my outfits, I’ve always really loved vintage, and love wearing things out of the ordinary, because it’s one of a kind and has its own story behind it.
How does it feel to now have two albums released?
Both of our albums right now we’re all recorded on the same day when we were barely fifteen. We’ve made it this far with shitty little recordings from freshman year, and we cannot wait to get our new music out.
Are you planning on releasing new music soon?
For the past few months, we have been recording an amazing album with Adrian Young from No Doubt and Todd Forman from Sublime. We all worked super hard and the album really showcases where we want to go in the future. It should be out on all music platforms within the next month.
What is one song you wish you wrote and why specifically that song?
I wish that I wrote Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. This song is why my parents were going to name me Strawberry. I was raised on The Beatles, and from their harmonious melodies, to their story telling lyrics, this song is 100% a masterpiece. We may or may not be covering it on our album coming out next month!
